Background Story

Loop-it is a digital deposit system for reusable cups and boxes to eliminate single-use items.

They are currently running at several locations across Sweden including Café Rio at JU. When you order your drink to-go in the reusable loop-it cup, you pay 30 SEK as a deposit. When you finish your drink, you return the cup at any partner location.

At return, you receive a digital deposit to your account that you can exchange for another reusable loop-it cup again and again and again. The café washes the cup and can use it again. Their cups are dishwasher safe, up to 1000x reusable, shatter proof, 100% recyclable, BPA-free and stackable. And on the app, you can see how many items you have saved.

The Challenge

Loop-it hope to achieve a ready-to-implement project in Jönköping. Their need for this challenge is to come up with a solution of creative ideas that will help to:

1. Get more partner locations on board. For example: How can they attract more locations to use their system? How should they communicate the benefits?

2. Raise awareness and grow their user base. For example: How should loop-it design their communication campaign? Among the potential stakeholders, there’s the city, university, organisations, partner locations and everyone you can really think of.

3. Make re-using fun and easy to use. For example: What could the needs and problems of loop-it’s partners and users be? Loop-it hope to understand this better, so that they can increase and improve their system.

They now hope to turn your ideas into a real pilot in the city.

Grading criteria

The jury will consist of representatives from both StartUP Jönköping, SSA, Science Park and loop-it.

  • Approach What is the approach, what is unique about it and how does it match the need?
  • Benefit per cost What are the specific benefits for the stakeholders?
  • Customers/market How will the customers be reached?
  • Innovativeness Out-of-the-box-thinking: How novel and creative is this approach?
  • Presentation Professionalism of presentation
  • Level of ambition and engagement Activities conducted for project progress
  • Sustainability Touches at least one Sustainability Development Goal
